David Bowie To Headline Tour With NIN

David Bowie will headline the "Outside Tour," with Nine Inch Nails billed as "special guest." The U. S. tour (which ATN reported on previously) is set to begin on September 14 in Hartford, Connecticut and will last for six weeks. Confirmed cities include Boston, Toronto, Philadelphia, Detroit and Chicago. There will be a third act on the bill opening the show. The tour is expected to hit outdoor amphitheaters; tickets will cost .50.
This will be Bowie's first tour in five years. He last toured in 1990 performing primarily his greatest hits for the "Sound and Vision" show. It's been eight years since he performed new material before a U. S. audience. The show will avoid big sets. Instead, it will be a stripped down rock 'n' roll performance. Bowie will be backed by guitarists Carlos Alomar and Reeves Gabrels, pianist Mike Garson (who played on both Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars and Aladdin Sane albums), vocalist George Simms, ex-Gang of Four bassist Gail Ann Dorsey, synthesizer player Peter Schwartz and drummer Zachary Alford.
Bowie's new album, Outside will be released September 26, twelve days after the start of the tour. One song on the album, "The Hearts Filthy Lesson," has been remixed by NIN's Trent Reznor. The album also includes: "Hallo Spaceboy," "We Prick You," "I'm Deranged" and "Voyeur of Utter Destruction (As Beauty)." It was produced by Brian Eno, who last worked with Bowie during the '70s producing the influential trilogy: Low, Heroes and Lodger. Reznor is a big Bowie fan, and has said that Low influenced him during the recording of The Downward Spiral. The NIN touring band will include drummer Chris Vrenna, keyboardist Charlie Clouser, guitarist Robin Finck and guitarist/bassist Danny Lohner. We hear that there will be a new NIN album released before Christmas.
