Trent Reznor releases soundtrack to 'The Social Network'

By Relaxnews for The Independent on September 17, 2010

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has been hard at work in the studio creating the soundtrack for the upcoming film about Facebook, The Social Network. Now he is releasing the entire score online, for free, Friday, September 17.

On the heels of releasing the debut EP for his new project How to Destroy Angels, Reznor teamed up with producer/musician Atticus Ross to produce the five new tracks for the film, which tells the story of Facebook's founders Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg.

"This has been an interesting new discipline for me to work in and I'm pleased with the process and the result," Reznor said in a statement. In a message on Nine Inch Nails website nin.com, he writes that he was approached by director David Fincher about scoring the film. "I've always loved David's work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned.... Months later, I'm happy to tell you we're nearing the completion of this and I couldn't be happier with how it's turned out. The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable."

The film stars Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland), singer Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield (the upcoming Spider-Man), and Rooney Mara, who has been cast in the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, also by Fincher. The Social Network opens the New York Film Festival September 24 and hits US theaters on October 1.

The full soundtrack to the film will be available for pre-order for .99 on Amazon, with an official release set for September 28.
