Trent Reznor Faces Song Theft Accusations

Originally published in MTV on August 21, 1997

Trent Reznor is reportedly coming under fire from a musician who claims the Nine Inch Nails mastermind stole six of his songs after the two met in an online chat room.

The Associated Press reports that Mark Nicholas Onofrio has filed a complaint in Los Angeles federal court claiming that Reznor used five of his songs on the 1994 album "The Downward Spiral" and claiming that one other song, "Burn" on the "Natural Born Killers" soundtrack bares an uncanny resemblance to another track he sent to Reznor.

Onofrio reportedly claims that he met Reznor online, asked if Reznor would listen to some of his work, and then mailed a demo to Reznor's house.

So far, no one from the Reznor camp has commented on the claims, but we'll keep you posted.
