Trent Reznor And David Bowie In The Mix

Originally published in Launch.com on September 26, 1997

"I'm Afraid Of Americans," the David Bowie/ Brian Eno composition from Bowie's recent electronic album Earthling, has been remixed by Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor. Says Bowie: "'I'm Afraid Of Americans' has developed into a key song in the Earthling tour--it's become popular with our audience. And Nine Inch Nails' input has created a fantastic single." Five different Reznor remixes--one of which features guest rapper Ice Cube--will surface on a six-track EP out October 14th; the sixth remix is by Photek. Says Reznor, "I've been a fan of Bowie's work for years and he's also a friend. When David asked me to do some remixes, I decided to use a collective approach....I wanted to throw some odd things in the mix and I have been planning to work with Ice Cube on some Nine Inch Nails material, so I asked him if he wanted to be involved. I am also a big fan of Photek's and I thought his mix for the same record would balance the EP out." This isn't the first Bowie/Reznor collaboration; in 1995 the two artists toured together, performing a four-song joint set between their own solo sets.
