Trent Reznor Gives Fans A Sneak Peak At New Album

With his protege Marilyn Manson seemingly bigger than ever, Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor has been finishing his new album and is preparing to step back into the limelight.
According to the Nine Inch Nails website (www.nineinchnails.net), the next NIN album is due in February and features a guest appearance by former King Crimson/ David Bowie guitarist Adrian Belew, among others.
Fans got a sneak preview of the new NIN album on Sept. 10, when Interscope took out a 30-second commercial promoting the forthcoming release during the telecast of the MTV Video Music Awards. For those fans that missed the commercial, have no fear: The seemslikesalvation news forum on the NIN site is offering free downloads of the commercial, which contains the new song "Slipping," in the MP3 audio format and in RealVideo and Quicktime video. The clip features a flickering NIN logo and a snippet of "Slipping." Before the clip ends, the word "ninetynine" (likely a reference to the album's 1999 release date) and the Nothing Records logo appear.
Belew recently spoke about the sessions in a chat at TalkCity. "Trent Reznor was working on 40 different tracks divided into two categories, one of which he typified as being NIN material, the other of which he referred to as his 'Tom Waits' album," Belew said. "I played feverish guitar on more tracks than I can remember as well as string bass, cello, mandolin and lap steel, while I played lengthy, hairy solos. There were times when Trent operated my foot pedals, changing my sounds."
