Nine Inch Nails, Lauryn Hill, DMX, Kid Rock, Jay-Z Lined Up For VMAs

Originally published in MTV on August 1, 1999

Nine Inch Nails, Lauryn Hill, DMX, Kid Rock, and Jay-Z are the latest artists confirmed to perform at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, set for September 9.

Those acts join a roster of VMA performers that already includes Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys, and TLC. For Nine Inch Nails, the show will mark the band's first televised awards show performance and will give Trent Reznor and company the chance to highlight new material from their upcoming album "The Fragile" (which is due to arrive in the fall).

The 1999 VMAs also added Puff Daddy, Janet Jackson, Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, Freddie Prinze Jr., Denise Richards, Charlotte Church, and the cast of "The Blair Witch Project" (Heather Donahue, Michael Williams, and Joshua Leonard) to its list of presenters.

As we first reported in June, comedian Chris Rock will once again host the Video Music Awards, which will be broadcast live from New York's Metropolitan Opera House on 9/9/99.
