Nine Inch Nails Claim No. 1

Following a highly anticipated performance at MTV's 1999 Video Music Awards (allstar, Sept. 10), Nine Inch Nails make a grand reentry into the world of rock five-and-a-half years after their last release as their third full-length studio album, The Fragile, debuts at No. 1 on next week's Billboard album chart, the Billboard 200. The double album sold 229,000 copies in its first week out.
Two dissimilar acts join NIN debuting in the top 10. Old school diva Barbra Streisand's wedding album A Love Like Ours enters the charts at No. 6 just behind last weeks No. 1 Eve (Ruff Ryders First Lady). Babs misses out on the top five by a mere 500 units. Smooth R&B performer Brian McKnight's fifth release, Back At One, bows in at No. 7.
Two groups reached impressive milestones this week as the Backstreet Boys' Millennium surpassed the 6 million sold mark and Blink-182's Enema of the State reached the 1 million mark as well.
Some familiar faces enter the chart in the top 20. Tori Amos' two disc set To Venus and Back, featuring 11 new songs and 13 live songs recorded on the recent From the Choirgirl Hotel tour, bows at No. 12. Everyone's favorite comedian, Adam Sandler, sees his fourth album, Stan and Judy's Kid, enter the charts at No. 16. Former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell's solo debut, Euphoria Morning, bows at No. 18 selling a little over 75,000 copies.
Other notable debuts include Terror Squad's self-titled debut at No. 22; Country duo Brooks and Dunn's Tight Rope at No. 31; Type O Negative's World Coming Down at No. 39; Kane and Abel's Rise To Power at No. 61; and tripped-out rocker Ben Harper's fourth album, Burn To Shine, at No. 67.
