(with at least a passing relation to Nine Inch Nails)
There used to be so many different Nine Inch Nails sites on the net that dedicated directories couldn't keep up with them all. Over the years, these numbers got whittled away due to consolidation into megasites, dwindling availability of free space at sites like Xoom and Geocities, and newer resources like Wikipedia. Nonetheless, there are still a number of active (and more importantly, interesting) sites out there that you might be interested in if you're a regular reader of The NIN Hotline. The following resources have stood out as excellent efforts by individuals or communities at exploring the many facets of Nine Inch Nails. Many of these sites are not light-fare, and definitely require repeated viewings to really appreciate the wealth of information they provide.
Echoing the Sound - A community of people gathered on the shared premise that everyone there liked a Nine Inch Nails album at some point. The official message board of the NIN Hotline, and the largest NIN community on the net.
NIN on Wikipedia - Not to be confused with the above link, this is a very comprehensive article on Wikipedia about Nine Inch Nails. Do you remember how band sites used to all try and write their own bio for the band? Instead of doing that, I just link to this page.
The Unofficial Nine Inch Nails Wiki - This site hit the ground running, appearing on the radar just before the release of Year Zero. The collaborative effort here has already been kicked off two different hosts due to the amount of resources it requires to keep its massive store of information current.
A Place to Bury Strangers - Some of you may have caught these guys on tour with NIN during the Lights in the Sky tour this year. You download their record for FREE or "name your price" for all sorts of high quality/lossless variables at their bandcamp profile
NINRemixes.com - This site sprung to life when Trent released the multitrack audio for The Hand That Feeds in 2005. It has since grown phenomenally to accomodate fan remixes and reviews.
nin-au.com - The Australian thread on ETS has spawned a new community. Check out the Halo 26 LE Owners List, AU Tour Posters & other AU specific stuff here
NINcollection.com - A very well kept database driven collection of Nine Inch Nails releases, with high resolution, watermark-free images.
Painful Convictions - Having recently undergone a major revamp, Matt Brink's site has the best unofficial lyrics database on the net, a comprehensive encyclopedia of everyone and everything involved with Nine Inch Nails, and one of the oldest NIN message boards on the net.
The Perfect Drug - Yuko Commy Nohara's site has always been a welcome change of pace from the typical fan site, and has undergone many variations over the years. As always, the site is available in both English and Japanese
Burning Souls - Jay Debard's fan site has been actively running since 1995, and has added enormous quantities of information about official releases through recent acquisition of NINcollector.com
Lucky Prick - We often get questions about what happened to Kevin McMahon & his band Prick, who were one of the first bands on Nothing Records. This site spans the whole range of Kevin's projects, with photos and artwork going back to the mid 80s.
Belong - Josh Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv introduced me to Belong, and we did a little contest for their debut album, October Language, which completely bowled me over when I got it. Fuzzy swells of harmony and ambeince that conjure the more abstract noises in a My Bloody Valentine record or Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 2, I cannot recommend this stuff enough.
Waxploitation - Home to Chris Vrenna's project, Tweaker, as well as the likes of DJ Dangermouse, Waxploitation is a friend of the Hotline and an early voice decrying the genocide in Sudan.
NIN.com - You already know about this one, but it's so good I thought I'd mention it again. Assembled by Trent Reznor and Rob Sheridan, you can download videos, photos, multitrack versions of NIN songs, wallpapers, Trent's blog, and loads more. It's not always straightforward, but it is the official website for Nine Inch Nails.
